Bell Hill Peter (Peter)
American Alpine AA2215639 (Deceased)

Peter was purchased in 2023 from Bell Hill Farm. Peter was out of Bell Hill Lotus by Little Nix’s Beau’s Noah, with strong Redwood Hills breeding behind him (Redwood Hills Klein Beau). Peter quickly became part of the family with his silly personality and funny antics. He was bred that next fall to our two does, Phoebe and Grace.
Peter’s Kids:
- 2023 (bred to Phoebe) – Rikki (Dawnridge Rikki Don’t Lose), still on our farm
- 2023 (bred to Grace) – twin does Ellie (Dawnridge Ranch Eleanor Rigby – still on our farm) and Rita (Dawnridge Ranch Lovely Rita)
- 2024 (bred to Phoebe) – Barry (wether) and Sherry (Dawnridge M-M-M-My Sharona)
Due to the small size of our herd, and the fact that most of his kids were daughters, Peter quickly worked himself out of a job. We adored this big guy and did not want to send him away, so he was surgically castrated in 2024 with the intention to become a cart goat and wether-buddy in the buck barn.
A gentle giant at well over 250 pounds, he was as kind and calm as he was impressive in size. One morning, as I led him out of his stall, a neighbor’s worker stopped his truck, pointed, and called out, “That’s a big goat—I thought it was a pony!” On another occasion, while playing near the horses, he stretched up against a wall to his full height, towering at well over seven feet tall.
Sadly, Peter was euthanized in April 2025 due to Urinary Calculi that was unable to be resolved surgically. He left a lasting mark on our hearts and our farm. I will always miss him jumping into the muck cart and asking for rides. Check out my Instagram posts with Peter to see for yourself what a sweet boy he was.
We sure miss this guy around here…
B/E – This buck has been DNA tested by the UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory for Alpha‑S1 Casein. The results help us understand how his genetics may influence the protein and fat levels in milk produced by his daughters. Higher Alpha‑S1 Casein is associated with creamier milk and better cheese-making, while lower levels may be easier for some people to digest.
